Best Answer You will need 4 dynamic text boxes:
1. Player's Health
2. Player's Current Health
3. Player's Level
4. Player's EXP
Then you say when the Player's EXP equals more than a certain amount (from battling) their level increases by 1 and their health also increases by a certain amount. The current health would be used during "battles" to denote how much health the player has left before they die.
Just create a very basic Flash with these 5 dynamic text boxes (the 5th being opponents' health) and a button. When the button is clicked the player loses a random amount of health and so does the opponent. When the opponent health equals 0 make the EXP increase and the opponent health to reset. Continue getting EXP until you level up, and then health should be added on.
If that all works, THEN you start creating the graphics and making it look pretty. Don't waste a load of time making it look nice and then realise that what you have done is wrong and doesn't work with the ActionScript.
Good luck! =]
